Becoming a Bail Bondsman

If you are interested in becoming a bail bond agent, you must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. Your first step should be to check if the state in which you want to become a bondsman allows commercial or private bail bond services.

Requirements for Becoming a Bail Bondsman

Each state and even some counties have different variances on the bail bonds licensing procedure. You can request information from your area’s State Department of Insurance to find out what steps need to be taken in order to obtain your license. The agent/agency licensing division of the department will have the specifics.

Below is a list of links to each state’s Department of Insurance. These agencies should be able to give you all the information you need to proceed.
